Message from the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies
Dr. Glenn Beltz Associate Dean & Professor of Mechanical Engineering
Welcome to UCSB's College of Engineering, a dynamic intellectual community with a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and community service. We offer accredited programs in chemical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering, with world-class faculty who bring excitement to education through their research and industrial experience.
Since we are a smaller college within the larger UCSB campus, we offer an excellent student to faculty ratio for engineering courses (about 9:1) while providing students with the services, programs, and opportunities of a larger campus. For example, we offer the option of completing your B.S. and M.S. degrees in five years, participating in an Education Abroad Program, or supplementing your degree program with coursework in technology management.
We hope you consider the College of Engineering at UCSB as one of your educational choices.

I have enhanced my (UCSB) experience through many different experiences, such as internships in industry, where I worked after my freshman year. Michael Rosengarten Computer Science Meet Michael »
The reason I chose UCSB was because I thought it offered more than other campuses did. For example, it has the Technology Management Program... This TMP certificate can help me towards my goal while not taking away too much from my engineering studies. Maximiliano Ramirez Luna Computer Engineering Meet Maximiliano »
UCSB is a very high-achieving academic school and looking around it is easy to see that the student population is highly intelligent and driven, but yet at the same time the atmosphere is very laid back and low stress, which was very refreshing for me. Melissa Gross Computer Science Meet Melissa »
The proximity of a top-ranked chemical engineering institution near my home was definitely the leading factor for me choosing UCSB. I attended Ventura College and came in as a junior transfer. Antonio Ortiz Computer Science Meet Antonio »
Studying engineering here at UC Santa Barbara, you have the benefit of courses taught by professors, not lecturers. You get to know everyone in your class and your class level… Eric Martin Mechanical Engineering Meet Eric »
I love working in the labs, it’s actually an area where I feel my background as an electrician helps me. Danielle Morton Electrical Engineering Meet Danielle »
I have had a lot of hands-on work with many of my professors, who I’ve had classes with - getting to see what’s going on with new research projects at the College has been great. Jason Oberg Computer Engineering Meet Jason »
I have had several internships here on campus, the one I worked at the longest is in the Materials Research Laboratory under Professor Tony Cheetham. We were working to develop new phosphors for LEDs using hybrid frameworks between organic and inorganic compounds. Alina Warner Chemical Engineering Meet Alina »
(UCSB’s) professional hospitality combined with all the excellent professors and interesting electives, has made for a very satisfying experience for me. Christopher Kyle Hall Computer Science Meet Christopher »
