“I have had several internships here on campus, the one I worked at the longest is in the Materials Research Laboratory under Professor Tony Cheetham. We were working to develop new phosphors for LEDs using hybrid frameworks between organic and inorganic compounds.”

Why I chose UCSB
UCSB has a very strong chemical engineering program. It was ranked top 10 in the nation when I was looking at the standings and the faculty are very easy to contact, and are very helpful and encouraging. The classes are small in size and actually taught by professors, not teaching assistants.
It is also very easy to get extra support here on campus – the faculty are readily available, they are always very eager to meet with you; the TAs also are very helpful and will schedule appointments to meet with you. The library is a great resource and I found myself in a position where I could help others study – study groups are usually the best way to finish assignments and get your work done.
Research with UCSB professors

Finding balance through sports
I joined the Ultimate Frisbee team this year, so I get to run around a lot which is a nice stress relief. So in addition to my studying at the library for hours and hours at a time, I get to go play frisbee and have fun with some of the most amazing people ever.
Future plans
After I finish my bachelor's degree, I am planning to go to graduate school. I really want to go into research, which is why I am doing so many research internships so I can pursue a research position.
